TNT Meeting

So Sarah and I just went to the TNT and signed our life away to them!!! We filled out all our paper work and are offically a TNT member. Our speaker Katie was really motivating and inspiring!!! Jenny this was such a great idea and I am so glad I am doing this. The meeting made me want to run a whole marathon, possibly next year. San Fran anyone??? They said it is really hilly!!! But just think- raising money for a great cause, paid for vacation, you will be in shape and TIFFANY'sNECKLACE!!! It was also nice to see that normal looking/average people can run marathons not just skinny, fit people. They give you everything you need in a binder to be successful. A training schedule, fundraising ideas and a sample letter, and we also got instructions on how to set up our own website that people can click on and make donations. I do believe we each need to set up our own accounts and not just a group one. Plus the more accounts maybe the more money!!! I am so excited to get started!!! Anyone who goes to a meeting and signs there life away still has until mid June to decide if it is really something you want to do. It is kind of scary that you need to raise a minimum of $2000 and you are entitled to fulfill that by August 24th or come out of pocket but I have no dobut we will all be able to do it!!! Sarah and I are also getting the Southern MD training schedule sent to us so we know when the long runs are down there and we can all run together sometimes!!!

Lauren- I would sign up for the race really soon, they said it is about to sell out!!! Also I am sure you will be able to stay with us in our rooms b/c when they were talking about travel arrangements they said stuff about others who will come with you to be cheerleaders, supporters whatever so I think your good. We can double check for you though. A wedding is enough to be worried about let alone how to come up with an additional $2000.

Jenny and Kim enjoy the meeting and let us all know how it goes!!! I will get a hold of Harmony and let her know she needs to go to a meeting or we have a kickoff breakfast on May 14th we can take her to and get her to sign up!

How is it going???

Hey everyone Week 2 almost complete and then just 18 more to go!!!

How is everyone doing??? Also who is a definite??? I think Erin is out b/c she also like Megan has a wedding that day. Harmony and Betsy are you still sitting on the fence???

Sarah and I are going to our TNT meeting saturday morning will update you all on how it goes. I am kinda of excited to go.

If anyone has not started training yet don't stress we still have plenty of time. It is hard to run but just think of how great of an accomplishment this will be when all is said and done!!!

Mid-week check in

Hope everyone is working hard on their training and looking forward to tonight's cross-training session. St. Mary's girls, just a reminder, the meeting is Monday at 6pm. Kim and I thought it would be fun to head to Monterey's afterwards!

Over $60 in the ad/search engine pot now! Put that in your pipe and smoke it!

Happy Week 2!

Hope everyone had a great weekend, and enjoyed their rest days! I am hoping the runs will get easier this week for me. I just leaned forward and my button unpopped on my jeans, so I really hope I start to lose some of my belly soon. I can't afford new jeans!! Over the weekend our search engine/ad money came to $50. That is great! If we can make that in a week, imagine what we will do in the next 4 months!

Thanks for the post Andrea! Remember, if these days don't work out for everyone, you can alwys change the days. Just make sure you get your 4 runs and 1 cross-train days in. And don't forget those fabulous rest days!

Have a great week!

Week 2

Hope everyone had a good first week and the runs or walks are seeming a tad eaiser! I was so sore on saturday from doing lungs and squats on friday that i was not able to run on saturday. I could barley walk. I am still really, really sore today in fact. Back to running in the morning though. I mean it is really pathetic how sore I am. I am now determined to do them 2-3 times per week, mabe that's why my thighs are so out of control-they are really out of shape.

Goals for this week:

Sunday-rest & strength training if possible
Monday-1 mile
Tuesday-1 mile
Wednesday-20 min cross train
Thursday-1 mile & strength training
Friday-REST
Saturday-1 mile

Good luck everyone and run or walk hard!!! It will be worth it in the end!!!!

Just think of these 20 weeks as a GUT CHECK LADIES!!!!!!!

Nutrition article

What type of food is best for energy?
Carbohydrate (CHO) is the most efficient form of energy and all athletes are recommended to follow a high carbohydrate diet. Carbohydrate-rich foods include bread, crackers and bagels; pasta, noodles, rice and couscous; breakfast cereals; fruit and milk.
The longer you spend training the more carbohydrate you need. The table below will help you calculate your daily carbohydrate needs.
Duration of Training
CHO needs
1-2 hours/day
6-7g CHO/Kg body weight/day
2-4 hours/day
7-8g CHO/Kg body weight/day
4+ hours/day
8-10g CHO/Kg body weight/day
So, if you weigh 68kg when you begin training, you should be eating 408g CHO every day. This should be spread throughout the day. For example, aim to eat 100g CHO with each main meal (breakfast, lunch and dinner), 50g CHO as a snack two hours before training and a 50g CHO snack directly after training.
For example, to reach the 100g carbohydrate target at main meals, include any two of the following foods or drinks at every meal:
Breakfast cereal, milk and sugar (large bowl);
Toast (4 slices);
Sandwich/roll (2 rounds of sandwiches or demi-baguette);
Pasta-based meal like spaghetti bolognaise or lasagne;
Potatoes (2 large, baked);
Rice (4 serving spoons);
Noodles (400g);
Soft Tortillas (flour tortilla wraps);
Fruit juice (500ml);
Apple/banana/orange;
Fruit yoghurt/yoghurt drink (2 pots);
2 pints milk.
If you are finding it difficult to eat the large amounts of carbohydrate recommended for sport, sports drinks, some of which contain up to 50g CHO per can will help meet your carbohydrate needs. Sweets and confectionery bars also have a high carbohydrate content and can be used occasionally to top up your daily carbohydrate intake.
The following foods contain 50g CHO and will be helpful as snacks between meals to help top up your carbohydrate needs:
2 crusty bread rolls;
4 slices toast;
6 jaffa cakes;
Large bowl of cereal;
5 fig rolls;
1 Mars bar;
2 cans Lucozade Sport;
1 can of Gatorade NRG.

Weekend!

Hey everyone - Good luck with your training this weekend. I know it is hard to find extra time over the weekend to do things, but try hard to squeeze it in. It will make all the difference come September. Just keep your goals in mind. I am looking forward to squeezing into all the pants I used to wear.
Good luck everyone, run hard. Figure out your own motivation for completing the marathon and keep reminding yourself of that.
~jenn

P.S. Over $22 in Google adsense so far!!! Keep it up!

UPDATE:
$42 as of 8:30 pm Sunday night!

Miscellaneous Info

I also have set the blog as my home page now and will use it as my serach engine. I use the google search engine a lot for school anyway so way not make some money off of it!!!

Meeting: Sarah and I will be attending the TNT meeting on Saturday April 30th at 10:00am in Crofton if anyone would like to join us for those of you who live up this way! Just email Jessica the TNT contact and she will sign you up.

Fundraising: Everyone has some really great ideas. I have a lot of people I work with so I will just ask for donations. Definetly will send a letter out to my family and probably my family's friends. And I was thinking to make it convient for the donators we should include an envelope already addressed and stamped so they can just write a check and drop it in the mail. Like a wedding invitation. The more convient probably the higher rate of compliance. I think I yard sale is a must!!! Jamie and I were just getting ready to take a lot of stuff to salvation army but I will save it to sell. Let's pick a date and location!!! I can also get my older sister and her husband to set something up at their work possibly along with my mom. Another idea is one of my friends who did the 5K for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer had a website set up and sent out the link and then you could just donate by credit card or whatever. Wonder if we could set something up like that or if TNT has something set up. I guess we will have to wait for the meetings. Can't wait to go to it actually!!!

Training: One week almost completed and only 19 more weeks to go!!! My mile runs are getting eaiser so that makes it more encourgaging and motivating to stick with it and keep going. Also I was thinking when we get down to the longer runs maybe we cold run a few as a group together to make it more enjoyable. There are a lot of good flat trails up here and I am sure st. marys has some as well somewhere!

Well keep up the good work everyone!!! Everyone who I tell I am doing this 1/2 marathon says they have heard the VA Beach one is a lot of fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy Friday! Andrea

To Whomever Was on Here Last Night Around 11:30

Hi - Whoever was on here last night and using the search and clicking on the ads, thanks! You bumped us up to over $13! Not much in the scheme of things, but everything counts

After the meeting next week, we should all try to approach our employers about corporate sponsorship, ad space, or a contribution. If anyone doesnt, you are forced to quit your job.

Week 1 Training 4/17-4/23

Sunday-Rest
Monday-1 mile
Tuesday-1 mile
Wednesday- 20 min cross train-can be any aerobic activity
Thursday-1 mile
Friday-Rest
Saturday-1 mile
Sunday- Rest

FYI Sarah- no reading involved with the file I sent. You can just print it out, it's a chart!!!

Easy way to make some money....

Hey guys - An easy way to make some dough is simply to use the search engine at the BOTTOM of the page (not the top one). Use it when ever you need to searchfor anything on the internet. Its powered by google so it is the same thing. Also, click on the ads at the bottom and check out those sites. They have been up since Friday and we have already made $7. That may not seem like much in the scheme of things, but I am pretty sure that I am the only one using the search field and looking at the ads. I set this as the homepage on my computer so whenever I need to find something I just hit the Home button and look it up here. Plus the ads have good advice and sales on shoes, etc.

We will start listing each weeks goals on the blog for everyone to see. I would love it if people wrote in and told how they are doing, etc.

Enjoy your evening of cross-training. I will be standing at the Hostess desk at the Tides as my cross-training.....

TRAINING GUIDE

OKAY, I THINK THAT THE PEOPLE THAT ARE ABIDING BY THE GUIDES SHOULD TELL US ON THE BLOG WHAT THEY ARE DOING AND WHAT WE SHOULD BE DOING EACH DAY OR COUPLE OF DAYS. THANK YOU. YES, I AM PLANNING ON DOING A 1/2 MARATHON BUT AM TOO LAZY TO READ THE TRAINING MANUAL.
I LIKE THE YARD SALE IDEA. WHEREEVER THE LARGER AMOUNT OF PEOPLE IS WE SHOULD HAVE IT THERE. I KNOW IN CROFTON THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE THAT ARE OUT LOOKING FOR GARAGE SALES ON SAT MORN. JUST AN IDEA.
WE CAN COME UP W/SOME GOOD IDEAS FOR RAISING MONEY.

IM REALLY SCARED ABOUT THIS RUNNING THING, IM PICTURING COMING TO THE FINISH LINE AND ALL YOU GUYS ARE ALRADY DONE AND SHOWERED AND WAITING FOR ME. BUT ITS GOING TO BE OKAY I HAVE PLENTY OF TIME(THATS WHAT I KEEP TELLING MYSELF) ANY WAYS. MORE PEOPLE NEED TO JOIN THIS BLOG THING ITS COOL. BYE

My first run

Today was my first run. I was so excited to finally have time to go out and run in my neighborhood. Overall, I have been pretty excited about all of this. But my run sucked. I thought I was going to die. I quit smoking a year ago, but you never would have guessed that by the way I was breathing. My legs hurt and I was running funny. I know I looked ridiculous, but thats ok because Lorenzo Spicer was the only person who saw me. So know he has seen my dancing at Catamerans in my pajamas and struggling to run a simple mile. He must think I am a freak.

Marley went for the run with me. He did really well..........

General Update

Hey guys - just a couple of things; A reminder that the meeting for TnT in St. Mary's County is May 2nd at 6:00pm. I originally thought it was on a satudray but its on a Monday. That actually works better for me. Also, I think my friend Connie is going to join the group, which brings our total to 9. I am going to work on a letter that we can all use to send out to people for donations. Lauren had a good idea that we send the letters out to local businesses. I definitely think we can get some St. Mary's businesses to donate for us. Maybe we could even get the Enterprise to write a little story on us :)

Looking forward to my first run tonight! Good luck everyone!

Training Day 1

so how did everyone do???

I ran outside for the first time since last fall and remembered how much harder it is to run outside as opposed to the treadmill!!! I just kept telling myself it was for a good cause and in the end I will be skinny and in great shape!!! Also my neighborhood has some hills so I don't really think that was so smart for the first day!

Well hope everyone was able to get through the 1 mile today and a ready to do it again tomorrow!!!

Good luck everyone and just tell yourself you love to run!!!

Fundraising

Hi everyone!
I just got an email from the girl at TnT. The fundraising goal for Va. Beach is $2200. Ok, that may seem like a lot right now, but remember we are all working together to raise the money. We can create a letter to send out to everyone we know, we could have a yard sale, we could sell stuff on Ebay, or we could sell books, CD's, DVD, VHS movies on Amazon. I have listed all of my old books and VHS tapes on Amazon and have made about $500 in the past month. If you want, you can give me stuff to list on Amazon, and I will list them and send them out. I definitely think this is doable. The guy I work with had to raise $4000 and he ended up raising over $9,000! Everyone start thinking of ways we are going to meet our goal! Right now we have 8 runners, so 8 x $2200 is $17,600. Man that sounds like a lot, but imagine how good it will feel to say, "I raised over $17,000 for the Leukemia Society!"

Warning about water intake

Week One Motivation

Hey -
Here is some motivation to get everyone off and running with the training program. If this old man can finish the Boston Marathon 60 times ( and you have to qualify to run in that marathon), I think we all will be able to finish a half marathon!!!

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20050418/ap_on_sp_ot/run_boston_marathon

Good luck today and Happy running :)

"Now, here, you see, it takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place. If you want to get somewhere else, you must run at least twice as fast as that!"

Good Luck!

So training begins tomorrow and I can't wait!!! Or at least that's what I tell myself! Good luck with your running or walking. Make sure you have good comfy shoes. I also really like Nike Dri-Fit brand running clothes. It really does make a big difference once you have to run the longer distances. Be sure to drink plenty of water tommorrow throughout the day!!! Looks like the weather is going to be nice so that's a bonus!!! My other favorite running accessory is my MP3 player!!! I think everyone should get one!!! Make sure it has plenty of memory for lots of songs!!!

He has no problem being by himself but maybe it could be fun for them as well!

Hope everyone is gearing up for monday!!! For those who haven't ran in a while there is a really good run/walk program in this book I have and will try to scan it in and post it in the blog.

Ads are up and running

Ok, the ads are at the very bottom of the page. I am going to try to redirect them to the top. There is also a search engine. PLEASE click on these ads and use the search engine. The more clicks, the more money. :)

Changes to blog

Hi everyone! Hope everyone is resting up in anticipation of the start of training!
I made some changes to the blog, I think. There should be links to the marathon and team in training website now. I dont know for sure if I did it right and it takes a while to update so we will just have to wait and see.
Also - There should be ads and a search engine. We receive money for clicks on these ads and use of the search engine, so if you have a chance click on them every once and a while. Any money added will go to the fundraising pot for TnT.

Hope you guys enjoy the weekend, while I toil away at the Tides and in school. Someone drink a cocamo for me at the Tiki bar. And tip a 40 for your homey.

THANKS FOR EDUCATING THE SLOW PEEPS

THANK YOU JENNY. I FEEL MORE INFORMED AND AM ABLE TO RELAX NOW THAT THE CONFUSION IS OVER. I WOULD BE GLAD TO JOIN YOU IN THIS MISSION. I HOPE WE ALL MAKE IT OUT ALIVE.

Update on everything thats happening

LMAO - Sarah you are too funny. Here is the lowdown:
  • We are going to do the Rock and Roll Half Marathon in Va. Beach Sept. 4th (Labor day weekend) the website is www.rnrhalf.com check it out, it looks so fun!
  • I offered to run the Baltimore one as well with Megan, but havent heard back. If I do end up doing both, I will walk most of Virginia with whoever wants to walk and run in Baltimore.
  • www.teamintraining.org/mdm is the website for the team in training through the Leukemia society. They will help us train and pay for our lodging all we have to do is fundraise for the Leukemia Society. We can all pool our money together to ensure everyone hits their goals. That way we will also be able to say "we raised $XXXXX for the Leukemia Society" rather than "I only raised $XXX" lol
  • We set up this blog to keep in contact with one another so we dont fill each others inboxes. everyone should have gotten an invitation to become a member of this blog. Once you do, you can go on and post under your own name. Email me or Andrea if you didnt get your invite.
  • So far out team is Jenny, Andrea, Sarah, Kim, Erin, Jess K., Lauren R. and Possibly Harmony. Megan is our team motivator and support group since she cant run in Va. but will be training along side of us.
  • There is a meeting May 2 at the Lexington Park library for TnT. There is also one up near you guys, but I dont remember the dates. You have to email Jessica Suriano from TnT and let her know which meeting you are going to, or if you cant attend, that you are would still like to join the program. All of this information can be found at the team in training website. Of course, if you can't find it email me. When you email Jessica S. give her your contact information and phone number. They will take care of registering us for the race and hotel accomodations.
  • I don't see why there would be a problem if everyone brought their husbands, fiancees, boyfriends, etc. It's labor day weekend in Virginia Beach with a bunch of concerts to attend. Should be a load of fun!!!

Ok, anymore questions? Just ask them in a comment and you will get an answer

Thanks Andrea, for your help with the blog! Computer nerds unite!

CHILL

HOLY SHIT YOU GUYS NEED TO CHILL OUT WTF, I DONT CK MY EMAIL OR THIS THING IN A DAY AND ALL THIS SHIT HAS HAPPENED. SOMEONE POST A MESSAGE ABOUT WHERE WE ARE RIGHT NOW AND WHAT EVERYONE HAS AGREED ON PLEASE. THANKS BYE

OKAY- ITS SARAH, IM RETARDED.
I SENT MY LAST POST TWICE AND ITS SAYS JENNY SAID IT. OH WELL. IM COMPUTER STUPID. BYE

marathon location

OKAY- ALL THESE FREAKING E-MAILS ARE CONFUSING TO ME. ARE WE TALKING ABOUT DOING THE MARATHON SOMEWHERE ELSE? IF SO... I NEED TO KEEP IT REAL.
TIMMY AND I HAVENT TAKEN A REAL VACATION SINCE OUR HONEYMOON, SO AS NICE AS IT SOUNDS, I WONT BE TRAVELING TO FAR JUST TO RUN A RACE. SORRY. BALTIMORE SOUNDS MORE REALISTIC & MY MOM (WHO IS 55YRS OLD) DID THE ENTIRE MARATHON 2 YRS AGO IN BALTIMORE, SHE SAID IT WAS BEAUTIFUL AND IF SHE CAN DO THE HILLS AND GHETTOS AND WHATEVER ELSE THERE IS I THINK WE CAN HANDLE IT.
I THINK I LIKE THIS BLOG THING TOO AONI!

Hooray!!

We have another addition to our team! Lauren Rowe is going to join us in training and at the Rock and Roll marathon! I will forward her on Andrea's training matrix. Her email is Lauren.rowe.ctr@navy.mil. Now comes my favorite part of training, shopping for clothes! I need some workout clothes and running shoes :)

Thanks to Andrea

Thank you so much Andrea for the training program you sent out. I am sure it is going to work well for everyone! I am getting so excited and I hope that everyone else is too! One thing that adds to my excitement is coming to this blog and seeing people leaving comments! Andrea signed everyone up so they could go on and post, so you should all take advantage of it. You can go on and just let everyone know how you are doing, any hints you pick up or some motivation you have uncovered along the way! Not sure if you know or not, but our blog can be seen by other people, not just the girls I am bugging to go look at it. We already had a post from a girl named Erin who ran the Va. Beach marathon last year and she said it was awesome!

So maybe the blog isn't your thing. Why dont you check out the website for the race? The address is http://www.rnrhalf.com. You can see a map of the course, check out the entertainment that will be going on and find out all information you need. There is no need to sign up because going through Team In Training guarantees you entry. There are bands set up at each mile to entertain runners and then afterwards is the Verizon American Music Festival. Bands are not listed yet, but previous bands were Live, Goo Goo Dolls, and others. I promise if you are iffy about whether or not this is something you really want to do, checking out the website will change your mind!

Here is some inspiration for you ladies that are hoping to lose some weight through this! Sorry Erin, had to do it! Posted by Hello

Rock-N-Roll Half Marathon, Va. Beach

It kinda sounds like the Va. Beach race will work the best. Unfortunately Megan won't be able to run with us but she will be a constant source of support and encouragement! Meg - if you want I will do the baltimore race with you too. I asked Jessica Suriano about the race registration deadline and she said not to worry because TNT has unlimited spots in that race. She also said that there is a band at every mile so we will really enjoy it. If you havent contacted her with your contact information please do so, SurianoJ@md.leukemia-lymphoma.org and let her know which meeting you will be able to attend (if any). If you know anyone else who would like to participate, pass the word on.
I really hope everyone is checking in on this blog, otherwise I am wasting my time and people are missing out on information :) Plus there are pretty pictures of my doggies.

Need everyone to respond

Hey guys, I know it is early but we really need to pick a race. I think the one that is going to work out best for everyone is the September 4th race in Va. Beach. The one in CA is the weekend of Lauren Rowe's wedding, and the one in Baltimore is really hilly and Andrea won't be able to do it. So I need everyone to respond and let me know if they are able to do that weekend. All you have to do to respond is click on the comments button and type in your response. You can also respond to any of the posts, or even post your own. If you want to post a pic, just email it to me and I will put it up. You have to have some fancy software program to do it.

Don't Worry About Me

Don't count Baltimore out just b/c I can't make it. I will still train and everything and possilby run at a later one.

I had been thinking about doing VA Beach. I know of other s who have ran it and said it's really fun. The only thing is registration closes on the 5th of May according to the website. NOT sure if it is different if we go through team in training. Also the web site stated registration may close in April. It closes whenever it reaches its max amount of runners.

I will be in Nags Head the whole week leading up to the VA Beach race so that is my only hesitation. But if every one else is in for this one I will be too!

Also read about San Fran. They stated they picked a little flatter course than last year and promised NO CABLE CAR HILLS. I have a feeling it will still be hilly though.

BTW I love this blog thing Jenny, good idea!!!!!!!!

Training Day One

GRRRRRRRR! I am the marathon momma! I ate nothing but protein shakes and boiled eggs and ran a quick 5 mile jaunt before AND after work!

Yeah right. I drank two mocha lattes for breakfast, lasagna for lunch and pop-tarts for dinner. I did stand up for 4 hours at my hostess job, so thats something right? Now all I have to do is actually move while standing up.

Half-marathon here I come!!

Does anyone have any problems with Sept. 4th? There is a race in Virginia Beach that weekend. The only other two we could do is Oct 15 in Baltimore and Oct. 23 in San Fran. Andrea wont be able to make the 15th and Oct. 22 is Lauren's wedding. My vote is for Va., althought the finishers medal is a tiffany's necklace in San Fran! If we go to Va Beach I think that Lauren is going to run with us too! Oh and Sarah is definitely in. Someone needs to talk to Angie, I bet she would do it. Also, if you know someone else who might be interested, sign them up. It doesnt just have to be GNO girls. But lets pick a race first :)

An Expert Witness

A guy that I work with ran in the Disney Marathon with Team In Training. He said that he thought we should do the Orlando run because the run in Baltimore is really hard due to all of the hills. I dont like the sound of "hills" so maybe we should think about that. He also said that the training is really good and by the end of it we would all be able to run the 13 miles (or walk). I wanted to go some place nice and warm anyway. I dont like the idea of running in the rain!! I bet Megan has some horror stories about that!

I talked to Jeff and he said that Jennifer would probably join us. She already runs so I was sure she would be interested.

Sunday Night

It's about 10:40 on Sunday night and I am getting ready for bed. I am kinda worried about my eating habits and how they will affect my training. How can I give up Pizza and Chocolate? They make up about 95% of my diet? I bought that book you recommended Aoni, it should come in the mail soon. Tomorrow I plan on eating better foods. I have to work Monday night at the Tides, so I wont be running. But I will be running around! I get excited when I think about all the weight I am going to lose, because I have gained about 15 pounds recently and none of my pants fit. I can't afford new ones, so I need to lose the weight.

I am looking for something online that lays out a training program. If you know of one, or find one, let me know!

Gotta Run - Talk to you later

First entry

Hi guys, I created this spot so we could post marathon training tips or anything that we find related to running. That way we dont have to fill up our in-boxes! So far I have yes's from Megan, Kim, Erin, and Andrea, a maybe from Sarah, and I am pressuring Krista to get her to say yes! Remember you dont have to run, walking is fine too! Go to www.teamintraining.com to find out more information about the program and the different marathons we can go to. If we raise a certain amount of money for the society, they will pay for us to go to the marathon (hotel and travel) so lets pick some place fun!

Gotta run - I will talk to you guys soon!
